Poll: Would you like to join a new community powered news aggregator
I am currently unemployed and have spent all my savings to build a new, ad-free, unbiased and simple community powered news aggregator. The answer that I really want to get from people on HN itself that if anyone would like to join the platform?
Thanks in advance!

[ 3.0 ms ] story [ 26.5 ms ] threadTake me... am I interested, in principle, in something like this? Yes. Am I going to sign up? I'd say the probability of "no" is about 90%. Why? Because attention is limited and there's some new "thing" coming out every day that somebody wants me to sign up for, and I can't be bothered to deal with most of them. The truth is, I wouldn't know if I really wanted to join your site until I can see the site, see the other users, get a feel for the community, etc.
I could be wrong, but I doubt I'm unique in this regard.
So what's the takeaway from that? I guess I'd say it's something like "don't put too much stock in a poll like this unless you get really extreme results in one direction or the other". I mean, if 10,297 people vote "yes" and 3 people vote "no", or vice versa, that would be a strong signal.
The harder part is if 5100 people vote "yes" and 5200 vote "no". How do you disambiguate the people who "voted no, but would actually join if the thing were appealing enough" or the people who "voted yes, but won't really join unless the thing is appealing enough"?
It's a little bit of a catch-22, sadly.
Once you ship it you can get more accurate feedback on why or why not someone will use it.
