Preparing for Fall Covid

Hi,

Since lots of scientists seem to think the fall/winter is going to get worse (potentially, but hopefully not a 2nd wave on the order of other pandemics). While things are still in stock and people are going around relatively normally, how are people preparing?

We're starting to stock up on dry foods more again (rice/etc have been in stock for a while), toilet paper, trying for some purell/hand wipes; frozen food for dinners; made sure we have enough masks. Feels sort of like a slow motion train wreck. I'm not sure anything else that would be helpful because I don't know how things are going to shut down or barrel through

I will add to your list: air filters, water, power generator, protection for your home
Tuna fish cans? They don't require refrigeration.

Lentils and other similar things?

Soap for you, the dishes and the cloth. It has a good shelf life.

Also, don't overestimate the problem. You don't need toilet paper for a year as some people seen in the news.

Fortunately we bought a deep freezer just weeks before the pandemic became known, as a bit of a Christmas gift to ourselves. What serendipitous luck that it was already full of goodness by the time it dawned on us that we're going to go through it all a little faster than intended.

Of course now that we're half-way back to normal, and expecting to repeat the earlier part of the year but with lousier weather, we are filling it all back up again. With some lessons learned -> variety is key to keeping your dietary sanity.

We have lots of masks and alcohol wipes and hand cleansers, and good old fashioned soap since those really are the biggest defense we can have right now. We always have a couple months worth of daily supplies (toothpaste, tp, shampoo, etc) so we just increase what's in storage as the weather starts to chill.

We're also simultaneously preparing for winter itself so we don't have to go out into public much at all. Lots of candles and lighters, flashlights and batteries, and we've already stocked up a half a year's worth of dog food for the pooches.

Buy things you will need when they're on special now and until you need them so you aren't rushing your ass off at the last minute. Let the hoarders have their own high-priced chaos alone during the crappy weather that comes with November/December. You'll end up less rushed, and save money besides.
