Since this is the second post of the same report on HN today. I would like to suggest fellow HN readers to research a bit into Adrian Zenz first.
Many redditors have noticed the recent trend in the news and posted their observations and researches. Please search for "Adrian Zenz" in the comments of these Reddit posts:
That's right. I believe the solution is for people to develop and apply their critical thinking. It's the way to prevent Nayirah testimony, Iraq's WMD or similar from being used as excuses for war again.
So all of what is happening in China with regards to Tibet and Uighers is part of a disinformation campaign, piecing together the totality of the sources you provided?
Consider Wilkerson, chief of staff for Collin Powell, says the US is in Afghanistan to be able to disrupt BRI coming through Xinjiang and to be able to provide direct support for insurgency to destabilize China through inciting Uyghurs, I think we can say there's a bit more than the image we're presented
Thanks for that. I've wondered where this drumbeat of Xinjiang stories (and little evidence) was coming from. The idea that some far-right German fundamentalist is building a following behind some of it makes a lot of sense (particularly under Trump).
That said, there's little question what's happened in Tibet in the 70 years China has occupied it ... and what they've already done there (and here ... re the NYC Thai cop reporting to the consulate) (not to mention the Cultural Revolution or Tiananmen) makes it a lot easier to entertain the Xinjiang story. China plays a long game.
I've noticed that ad hominem posts about Adrian Zenz tend to show up every time this topic is mentioned on a public forum.

Edit 2:
Here is an interesting video of the author (Max Blumenthal) challenging Adrian Zenz in person on Capitol Hill

A youtuber Daniel Dumbrill's interview of Max Blumenthal:

Daniel Dumbrill also did some research:

(BTW Dumbrill's travel videos are pretty cool)
Though that will open the floodgates to all sorts of scrutiny that I think won’t help.
So a post like yours seems to be a good enough solution for the problem.

It wasn't enough in the relatively innocent "good old days of bush", now social media has been weaponized
