Ask HN: How to Predict Salary Growth as a Grad?
I'm trying to determine what kind of lifestyle choices I'll need to make to save enough for retirement (ballpark, of course). And those choices will look different depending on if it takes me, for example, 10 years instead of 5 years to reach $100k/year.
Location is obviously a major feature, but in my location GlassDoor suggests between $55-65k(CAD)/year for positions a new grad could fill and more senior roles, like "Senior Application Architect", showing salaries closer to $125k/year(CAD). I haven't found much higher than $125k/year, though I'm sure they could exist.
This recruiting firm posts some salary distributions based on title (e.g. 25th precentile for "Web Developer" title) [0]. So maybe another way to ask the question - what resources exist to establish a reasonable timeframe in moving up a salary distribution?
