If we’re going to go back and forth on whether Twitter was right to do this, can we at least all get on the same page that this is 100% pure civility politics, and in a political climate where a couple hundred thousand citizens died on account of malicious incompetence worrying about this issue is mere political theatre.

For liberals, Trump cannot simultaneously be a thread to the entire US democratic political project and someone you hope recovers quickly from COVID-19.

Only in the TV-set world of political theatre does that kind of civility fetishism make any sense.

The West Wing’s particular kind of liberal fetishisation of a respectable Republican opposition comes to mind here.

Maybe we would be better off if it was totally socially shameful to wish even the most hideous people ill health, but in the face of the real, material crises faced by the USA, getting sucked into a beat up over this particular issue is farcical.
