Leading up to "Columbus Day" / "Indigenous Peoples Day", I've been listening to lectures on the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire. There was a lot of brutality, especially by Hernán Cortés. The war dogs are but a footnote.
The Aztec Empire was also brutal in general. That's why many of the oppressed tribes joined the Spanish conquerors (which actually we're a minority in the battles).
