Has Anyone Else Found Zendesk Has Gone Downhill Big Time Lately

I have a problem where all of a sudden it won't accept an email for a ticket, my account is current, but I can only speak to a bot which is not even as good as doing a search.

Anyone got any other suggestions that are not too painful to migrate to?

I am using it for tracking issues across a globally spread team that are poorly integrated and I just use it as an issues tracker mostly, but with PM approval on change etc.

I wonder about Git, but have not used it like this before, does anyone have any input?

Try osTicket if you want to self host. We also have a hosted version if that’s your preference.
We're in the same situation. It notifies me that "there might be some problems with your zendesk account" every day. I'm requesting to migrate "Zopim" which is their legend chat to the new Zendesk chat for age, and they haven't done anything about it.

Up side is that their customer service is good, if you can catch a human talking with you. (migration for chat is a job of an account executive, sadly)
