As someone that's worked remotely for the last 10 years I don't understand decisions like this.

What's changed? Dropbox is a web company and I'd expect the majority of their management to know about remote work tools prior to the pandemic.

So they just didn't think it could work?

Heck any large company has multiple offices with some people in those separate offices working together. That's a distributed team already.

I can't believe they just didn't put 2 and 2 together until they were forced to.

Likewise, I’ve worked at companies where execs and management frequently worked from home but wouldn’t let individual contributors. It’s funny now watching it forced on them.
Depends on the company. Some make a concerted effort to organize people in the same building on the same product.

Others don’t, and I agree that if some are remote, full remote seems better.
