Keeping the lightning cable is a massive fail.
Does anyone have any industry data on comparative failure rates between the lightning port and USB-C?

Anecdotally, I have had multiple failures of USB-C female sockets and male plugs, even with high quality products. I have not seen a lightning port fail among my friends. The lightning connector physical design appears far more robust and reliable to me personally (fewer pins, not as fragile).

I have never cracked a device. I have destroyed multiple male lightening connectors. Basically every time a plugged-in device hits the floor. Often because I’ve accidentally snagged the cord. The female port seems to hold up well, though. I now buy cables in multipacks.
