Tell HN: Feedback – don't let new accounts post in flamebait threads

1 points by akersten ↗ HN
There's 2 or 3 big-tech threads on the front page right now that have devolved into flamewars. While these are normally quickly deleted, they appear to have been manually modded up (which I suppose would avoid a claim about HN censoring the articles about censoring). So that's fine. But it's tedious reading through a bunch of low-effort posts by throwaway accounts. Can we at least prevent those?

It may be a good idea. Send an email to the mods hn@ycombinator.com . They usually reply soon.

There is a problem about the details, like the minimum of days or the minimum of karma (or the minimum of days*karma) or other metric like how many pages the user has seen or how many times has upvoted something.

Here's my take:

I don't like this Tell HN. It's too non-specific.

If you want to make a point about threads, then link to the threads in question. Don't make me play Where's Waldo, asking me to hunt thru all the submissions, so I can try to figure out which threads you're upset about.

They'd do better to kill posts where the comment-to-upvote ratio goes too high. The best posts tend to have relatively few comments.
