Ask HN: Does anyone give your kid(s) retro electronics?

Hi HN parents,

I'm wondering if any of you gives kids retro electronics, especially for the purpose of education.

E.g. give them Apple II/Commodore 64/ZX Spectrum for learning programming and a bit of computer arch.

What is the appropriate age for that (I'm thinking 6+)? Does game programming serve a good entry point? Do they get distracted by modern electronics (cellphone, consoles, etc.) quickly?

Thanks for sharing~~

What is the need for retro?

I would think a raspberry pi would be the best way to go since it is designed to be a kids first computer. They also have a lot of resources for teaching kids.

This makes sense. Thanks for the recommendation.
