I'm really skeptical about this, especially because:
The study found that the relationship between mental illness and COVID is actually bidirectional: people with psychiatric diagnosis were about 65% more likely to be diagnosed with COVID-19 than people without.
... and the study's authors admit they have no explanation for this. Either somebody is seriously claiming that mental disorders cause COVID-19 or else the study data very clearly have a serious correlation/causation flaw.
Also, I was pretty horrified to find out that researchers (in another country no less!) have access to "electronic health records for 69.8 million patients in the U.S.".
We all know how flimsy "anonymization" is, and how easy it is to re-correlate data with people.
