I have to assume it's just meaningless pandering, otherwise what would such a system look like?

A platform would just provide an interface but each user would supply their own database of content and connections. Either self hosted or on some third party server?

If people had to "own" their data and the platforms never had full access to it how much would user experience suffer.

Is what she saying make any sense or am I missing something?
