As if someone who is ready to spend 150k$ (minimum) on a car chooses between EV and ICE based on that. Beyond unbelievable, almost as if Trump was ever elected president of the US.

Nitpick, as I'm on my throwaway account: HN should ban users who post twitter links for life.

That’s a fine opinion. I still uphold that such throwaway troll accounts should be banned, but to each his own.
I appreciate your opinion. I'd do even more so if you'd tell me why I should be banned. The OP mentions a "sock-puppet PR company" aiming to support Aston Martin. And please let's keep the spirit of HN and be open, honest, direct and respectful.

On twitter: Aside from 4chan and parler, do you know a more toxic social network than twitter?

Besides, Bosch (known for diesel-gate) doesn't lend much credibility to the claims (of course, abiding to twitter laws without any proof).

Fair enough, though I’m still not convinced everyone who posts a Twitter link should be banned. There are plenty of interesting on topic things I’ve Twitter I’ve found on here that I enjoyed learning from far from any off topic or political content. I can’t speak to Parler, but even 4chan is known to have its intelligent content, just the culture over there doesn’t really lead to things being discussed in a way that HN would appreciate (nor do I appreciate it all the time)

FWIW I’m less convinced this is a troll account now, I’ve just become weary of brand new throw aways sharing their “hot takes” and not much else.

Why? This was discovered and breaking news on Twitter today, it has not been picked up by any media outlets yet
Just don't give any credibility to twitter/facebook/4chan anymore. Read wikipedia, contributions of authentic authors, credible and unbiased media like hbr.org etc.

If something does not get picket up by media outlets, it's a sign it's even less credible.

This is Michael Liebreich, founder of Bloomberg New Energy Finance. That's as credible as you get in the energy/transport sector
OK I find this surprising because I always assumed (well I was told by others) that manufacturing CO2 was negligible. So very likely, I am already greener than a guy with a Nissan Leaf or Model 3. I drive used cars and only drive small cars with small engines (1L cars). My car has tailpipe emissions of 136g/km CO2, and is 11 years old, bought used a year ago. Add to that an additional 47g/km from fuel cycle and I have 183g/km.

Meanwhile the manufacturing of the average EV releases around 10tons of C02. I am omitting the other emissions from using the car (see the study below for details, it's from the author of the tweet). That means I have to drive 55000km until I even reach that. That's 15 years of driving for me, going by my commute of 5km each way everyday. Neither car would last that long.

I used data from here: https://www.oliver-krischer.eu/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/En... https://www.carbonbrief.org/factcheck-how-electric-vehicles-...

How are we supposed to replace combustion vehicles if we don’t build new EVs?

That’s great that you can make do with a used car, but there are hundreds of millions of cars in the world burning fossil fuels that need replacing with EVs, otherwise we’re never going to get off of petroleum.
