Some people asking why not just fix it, however as the last story said too much risk of full collapse putting workers at risk. That has happened now, as predicted.

It doesn't seem to have had a thought given to the possibility of repair. How would the center be lowered down for replacement? There doesn't seem to be a landing spot. One of the cables even had a catwalk, making it clear that there was no way to simply play out more cable to set down the center.

Next time, design for repair.

It wasn't designed to last 50 years. It was a throwaway DoD project from the cold war.
