What are they going to do? Spread post-structural, i.e. communist, philosophies and trick "researchers" into destroying our country with constant lies while hiding behind civil rights issues?

Or does our IC actually mean hacking instead of counter-propaganda this time?

It's shameful that the government has to conduct this kind of awareness campaign with one hand tied behind its back. Who are the think tanks? State it publicly.
> one hand tied behind its back

Plot-twist: They don't want awareness because western cyber capabilities are far and beyond the best the in the world. We hack ourselves and each other constantly. Most are aware of China/NK/Russia/Iran actors doing X action. You'll have a rough time finding anyone in the five eyes with common knowledge of their offensive capabilites. Perhaps Stuxnet but by all accounts that was all due gungho Israeli's going full-tilt rather than US allies.

Why does the specific think tank matter? All that naming them would do is erode their credibility which could easily be the initial apt objective anyway if the think tank is advancing potentially inconvenient policies.

The problem is the attack and reading between the lines of the report the problem is probably a mix of blackmail and trying to gain access to whatever the think-tank knows or is debating (maybe to prepare in advance should their ideas become mainstream) since these are the sorts of people who probably won't have trouble trying to prove who they are after the initial compromise.

I wanted to know what the foreign policy implications were. I'm of the opinion that the population should be able to know about as much as the government when it comes to foreign policy.
They even had humanint do drive by hacks.
