Advice for someone wanting to become a web developer?

One of my friends is interested in web development and has little to no programming experience. I am asking for advice on what to tell him. Coding bootcamps, coursera, udemy, etc? How would you do it if you were in their position? I suggested they learn python/javascript by taking an online intro course and go from there.
