Both of these people seem like assholes, but honestly the Luis guy seems like a bigger one. This Rob character at least seems interested in trying to break through and find agreement somewhere.

I've noticed two things about both kinds of people that are on these opposite spectrums of political thought:

1. They're almost always minimally employed, or unemployed.

2. They always expect people to see things "their" way and then adjust their actions and beliefs. This seems to me to be worse for far-leftists.

Number one is simple. If you're making a good salary and you're working hard at your company and have a path to climb up the ladder, you don't have time to fuck off in the streets crying about non-existent boogeymen (or existing ones for that matter). There was a time earlier this year when I was putting in 70-80 hours a week in at work, and fortunately I was working from home. Some days I was so engrossed, I didn't eat that day, or even take a shower.

Number two is simply acting like a child. Adults know that for long-term success, from the local to the international level, there must be some element of cooperation with people you don't agree with, don't like, and perhaps even actively loathe.

I did notice two things about this article - they took a stab at Rob's appearance (45, but looks older) but described Luis (mid-40s) totally differently. Both of these fuckers look haggard as shit for their age - I say that, because I am their age and I don't look nearly as shit as they do. Maybe its a hard life they've lived... maybe they don't take care of themselves well (diet, exercise, sleep, water intake, whatever), but they're both rough looking. The second part was very telling about these "anti-facists". They say any brown people in the Proud Boys are just "token" members to cover for extremism. This is the most discussing kind of racism to me. We saw it at the Oscars a few years back with Meryl Streep when she was talking about MMA being full of white racists... when MMA is over 80% immigrant and non-white. They all love their genderqueer Bangladeshi mother of 3 who's putting herself through UCLA while working at the local diner... but they fucking hate the conservative Syrian immigrant who came here as a cage fighter.

That kind of hypocrisy isn't lost on casual viewers.

>"My dad's from Mexico," one of them tells me. The others point out minorities and gay men in the group. "It's so funny having a white antifa guy call me racist."

This is why The Proud Boys are not really taken seriously by the far right. Though their actions this week have demonstrated some degree of maturity, they have a record of clownish behaviour and degeneracy at times (eg. McInnes dildo incident).

I would say "just ignore them" but their impotence is exactly why the media will continue to report on them - they're a safe, harmless boogeyman to represent the right, with a habit of providing opportunities for mockery.

(And I'm shadow banned again? Sorry, dang, but if you don't want me to make new accounts it needs to stop...)

Everyone hates on media, but they just report on everything because they have to compete for attention with social media and free news. We thus end up providing platforms for clown assholes and the shocking, in between ads. It's exhausting, but don't blame the media for your environment.
Nazis as in “national socialists”. See, there is no ideological differences here, certainly not to ends of a spectrum. It appears to be about community. If people are told their view of how the world works is wrong, they don’t suddenly just change their persona. They go and find people with similar attitudes to affirm their beliefs. And these amplify the beliefs of the members by mutual enforcement as to raise above the criticism received in terms of signal level.
