Ask HN: Where do you regularly discover interesting links on internet?

I recently came across websites like special.fish and gossipsweb.net, do HN users have different sources?

There is this orange outdated looking site where nerds hang out that I like - https://news.ycombinator.com/
May it never be modernised
It's so fast, and it loads quite well on my Kobo eReader and in CLI.
Kobo eReader is any good? I'm looking for a eReader.
I love mine, it's mostly opened up so you can sideload almost whatever you want (EPUB , CBR/CBZ, PDF although not great, and even Kiwix ZIM files) and there is a great modding community on mobileread.

I found the integration with Pocket (read-it later kind of servixe) to be quite useful, as I can read web articles at my own pace, without any distractions on a paper-like display without requiring Internet access.

I'll second the Kobo. I moved over to them after owning several Barnes & Noble's Nook e-readers and couldn't be happier. I have purchased several for others as gifts (which is better than just a recommendation!). I can check ebooks out of the local library with the integrated Overdrive (functional and free, limited catalog), occasionally buy books from the Kobo store (convenience), but often purchase DRM free epubs (Baen Books being a favorite for Sci-fi/Fantasy) and sideload them.

I love mine and use one every day (and have for years now).

Is there a reason why HN is orange?
It's the Y Combinator corporate colour
True, but that's not the reason. The reason (for both) is that pg likes orange.
What if... The colour could reflect the time of day and the of the year? Thus over time we could say that the purple time is coming which means it's the fun part of the year!
You can do that yourself once you can set your top color, which happens at a certain level of karma. I think it's 250.
Wow! More fun stuff opens up as you earn more Karma? Had anyone reached the end level?
The devs implemented a halloween theme just before losing their SSH key for the production server about 10 years ago.

You can choose your preferred colour in your settings. Mine is #abdcef pale blue.

@dang it would be awesome if this also translated to the icon and favicon :| I know, I know, it would be crazy.

Hackernews and Wankspider.com
Actually only hackernews because the community here is well educated and is interested in commenting and discuss on a higher level.
Every group has it's detractors/screwups/etc. It just might be a lower percentage here than other places. I've seen some nasty stuff on a few of the posts that have a tie into politics (FL Data Scientist article recently) and of course downvoting without discussion or explanation.
I recently watched a post that had a good conversation in the comments get flagged and removed on the basis of "the author is a college student, what do they know". Was really disappointing to see.

Overall I enjoy my experience here, though.

Thedonald.win Go learn what the other side thinks. Find common ground
Probably better off finding a more legit/mainstream site if you want to find out what another side thinks.

Using that site to find out what Republicans/Trump supporters believe on a wide scale would be like using the socialist party's website to find out what AOC supporters think (because people on the other side believe she's full socialist).

There are no legit/mainstream sites anymore, there are too many powerful political interests in play. What tries to pass for "legit/mainstream" these days is plain old propaganda. Thedonald.win itself exists because the original group, r/The_Donald, was censored and banned from reddit on the excuse that they were inciting violence against the police. This, of course, happened just before inciting violence against the police was considered cool. If you want to know what that other side thinks (supposing you are on the other's other side), go to thedonald.win.
I guess what I'm saying is that if you use a single site to stereotype a group of people, that stereotype will be wildly inaccurate. I'm sure there are Trump supporters (maybe better phrased as non-Biden supporters) that don't believe half the stuff on that site.
There’s over 1 1/2 million people on that site it’s the largest forum of Trump supporters by far
So 1.5M out of the 70M+ that voted for him...
Yes that is how math works. where do I find that portion of Biden supporters in one place?
"Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!"

Quit being a troll.

Do you have a source for your 1.5 million claim?

I could cite democraticunderground.com (260k) as a Biden supporting website. I guess I could stereotype all 70+M who voted for him as socialist terrorists because I see threads like "Do you ever dream of blowing up a trump building?".

This sort of stereotyping based on a homogeneous sample of a fringe/clique website is wrong. Anyone with a basic understanding of statistics would know that taking a sample from a website like these would be biased.

R/politics isn’t full of people calling the President Drumpft while insisting its rude to mispronounce an uncommon derivation of kamala? It’s only OK to make fun of people if they’re orange but not if they’re black? Its never ok. I hate how many double standards the left makes for why they are exempt
What are some examples of common ground that you think deserve more attention?
That 99% of republicans aren't racist you just use the extremists to stereotype and use it as an excuse to espouse hate
For a group of people who aren't racists they sure talk a lot about "riggers" and for people who don't espouse hate a lot of them really love their "Sunday gunday" and "helicopter rides"
Subscribe to high impact factor journals in various fields (Nature, Nature Reviews ____, Journal of Finance, etc) and try to understand everything you can.

And everything else is just an amalgamation of all the RSS feeds I follow, and some subreddits I'm subscribed to.

OT: Just checked their privacy statement in which they say "NO TRACKING (EXCEPT GOOGLE ANALYTICS, AND INTERNAL TRACKING)". That is quite a cheeky statement.
I never thought to look, those seems indeed contradictory

I should turn off my adblocker and see if there's ads..

By NON-COMMERCIAL, I thought non-profit. But still they need to earn something for hosting (if they are paying).
Lobsters[1] is a good alternative to HN.

[1] https://lobste.rs/

They are a LOT more focused in tech (free tech specifically), not many of the interesting conversations here would be welcome there. Also, they allow new accounts only if existing account invites them - thus severely limiting the number of “btw I’m the creator of X that you talk about, let me tell you my story” type of comments that are abundant on HN.
Thanks! I never knew about this. Seems interesting.
I made this space to share cool links with friends: https://tray.club/ (inspired by communities like special.fish). Not the best place for link discovery yet, but I like sharing an evergreen bundle of links and notes with friends this way :)
High quality creators have largely abandoned text/open-web in favor of video, ergo YouTube channels for interesting stuff.
Mainly hackernews, for great hardware related projects hackaday.com.
