Ask HN: Where do you go for music discussion?

I used to love discussing music on Last.fm but it feels as if the community died off. Discogs groups are pretty inactive except for a few of the larger ones.

Where do you go to discuss music? Or is it just really not a thing anymore?

I think IRC (Freenode) has some music channels.

Do you know which names of channels specifically?

As a guess, you could try #music. I think there are sites that have a directory that you can search though.

Just a thought: Have you considered starting a Slack or web forum for this purpose?

Have you looked at RateYourMusic.com? I don't participate in the community very much, but I regularly lurk there and find tons of great recommendations, reviews, and discussions about all kinds of obscure music.

Some of the subreddits are also good. Shout out to /r/hiphopheads, /r/indieheads, /r/popheads, and /r/letstalkmusic.

Haven’t tried the RYM forums but it’s a really great site for finding music. So glad that it’s still around.
