Ask HN: Page takeover ads on mainstream news sites

When did this become a thing. Obviously Ad-Blockers are limited in iOS safari but when this happens it’s an instant close and I never will visit your site again. Latest one was Newsweek. Straight to the garbage bin forever.

Also, ad loading causes the page to shift around all the time while you're reading it. Many big sites have become unusable because of this.

I should point out WeTransfer here for doing the opposite. Their background ads are full screen, often video, and don't distract from what you're trying to do (upload a file). Nicely done.

I use the No, Thanks extension to remove this crap. It's a paid extension, but to me, that's worth it. The usual ad blockers remove a lot of this stuff, but this extension even removes all sorts of annoying newsletter popups.
