Ask HN: How can I disable the christmas theme on HN?

2 points by hda2 ↗ HN
I remember there being a setting to disable it but I can't manage to find it. I am aware that I could just visit the hn subreddit and wait until this problem passes over, but I would like to remain on this site if possible.

Thank you for your time.

I don't see any christmas theme, just different color topbar when logged off. If you are talking about topbar, you can change color in your profile under "topcolor".
Neither do I. There are different colors, alternating red and green, on the numbering. Perhaps that’s it. If it was a real Xmas theme, it would use the <blink> tag to make the numbers flash on and off. [Whatever happened to <blink>? It was once so cool...]

Some OSs allow you to switch to a monochrome representation, perhaps as an accessibility option. That might do the trick.

Perhaps there is a switch on the monitor, if it is an analog monitor.

Or convert to analog, use an S-video cable to connect to an analog TV, and disable the chroma signal. This is Hacker News, it’s right in the name.

Might be cute to do a multicolored numbering on Holi.

I had to turn my monitor off, the alternating green/red numbers caused too much anxiety.
When you find out, also let us know how to turn it on please.
I sent compelling evidence that Jesus wasn't actually born on December 25th to the mods, but I haven't heard back from them.

I feel validated now that I see I'm not the only person unable to read HN because of the theme change. I have worked very hard to optimize my HN experience and now that's out the window. This disregard of basic color harmony and contrast, and presenting a consistent user experience, shows how little some people know about UI/UX.
