Post-translational modification and subunit swapping of the NMDAr are major mechanisms of LTP. I wonder if blocking NMDAr causes the neuron to switch out the receptor proteins, effectively resetting a good portion of LTP adaptaion.
It is interesting to me to see so many studies concerning the effects of recreational drugs on people with depression. Is there possibly a correlation between existing drug users and depression?
That correlation exists like you would Not believe. Quite a bit of apparent addiction? Is a conscious-or-otherwise effort to self-medicate when either economic adversity or social stigma keeps the person from getting real help. Or there's those that find these exotic effects helpful, and by accident.
