It's pathetic and lazy to ban books because you feel they're "filled with hate". The thoughtful alternative is to encourage reading these books and teach exactly how they're harmful.
This isn't always the best approach; I obviously don't recommend that schoolteachers start having their students read and discuss The Turner Diaries or SIEGE. But if you think that an otherwise pure work (like Dr. Seuss) harbors bigotry of some kind, banning it will at best lead to the Streisand Effect and at worst result in further loss of whatever respect students still have for the public school system and teachers in general.
I just love to see WSJ Opinion and NYT Opinion culture war articles on HN. Save this stuff for Twitter shouting matches. I don’t think this is the right place to post or “discuss” this content.
The Odyssey has survived for almost 28 centuries. It has survived christianity, islamism, fascism, communism, capitalism, and other forces known and unknown. It will survive woke twitter.
