I wonder about one thing. You are a scientist, you conduct research, and you discover something not in line with the current mainstream view (like some correlation between physical and psychological traits in newborns). You know that by publishing the results you can be punished. Maybe not immediately, but at some point some activist can pick it up and destroy your life just like they did with many people before. You have a family to feed, but also your scientific integrity and the drive to discover new things. What do you do then? I imagine finding similarly thinking colleagues and forming an underground network, sharing the results of our research without fear we'd be persecuted.
