The more people using Signal, the greater the incentive for nation states to break it, the less secure it is (all else equal).
I know the team has a good reputation, but bugs can be incredibly subtle. I hope they can somehow step up audits or security bounties commensurate with the additional usage!
They (Moxie) have a good reputation for the crypto but everything else from the bugs you eluded to being hostile to outside committers, to how they respond to critiques about UX like PINs and username identifiers really needs some improvement. I donate a few bucks each month but I'm really hopeful for some organizational improvements in the future. Their "endowment" can take the product pretty far.
