Total hypocrisy. I also find the behavior of those that attempted to destabilize American democratic processes disgusting, but after the initial Clearview AI stories came out, for all the privacy concerns and nay-saying that was asserted and discussed at length - to then return and say "Oh wait, I actually like this tech when it can be applied to my political enemies!" is particularly odious.
Maybe, from the outset, there should be more careful evaluation of the costs + potential benefits of tech before indicting it, and then wanting to bring it back when it's convenient.
