I’m not sure why they’re calling it a “platform” when the article explains it’s basically a central service offered by The Hague to member states’ police - I’d be comfortable with describing it as outsourcing digital evidence collection to a single agency that has the right tools (and industry connections) to get into encrypted iPhones.

...doesn’t the FBI offer something similar to local PDs in the US?

A bit more detail would be nice... Did they build a true quantum computer? Are they running hashcat and hoping for the best? Are they targeting broken cryptos nobody uses anymore? Who knows?
