Ask HN: How can I track and improve my sleep quality?

1 points by Takizawamura ↗ HN
I do not have a sleeping disorder and already sleep about 7.5 hours a day. That said I want to improve the quality of my sleep in a systematic way. Any key variables that I should track or experiment with?

Things that helped me as I struggled with this for a long time:

* Fresh air and sunlight during the day

* Strenuous exercise at least every other day, no less than an hour before bed time though.

* Limited screen time especially for an hour before bed.

* A cold bedroom. Leaving my feet out from the duvet seems to help me stay cool and sleep deeply. Might not be for everyone though

* a very dark bedroom, bin the blinds and get blackout curtains.

* No booze, no caffeine after about 3pm.

* Don't head a big dinner right before bed

* Don't drink a load of water for a few hours before bed either, or you'll wake up to piss.

I think that's all pretty standard stuff.
