I'm seeing more and more of this sort of argumentation these days: "If people are allowed to say certain things, they will destroy civilization. Therefore, we must preemptively destroy civilization by strictly prohibiting what people can and cannot say."
It's much worse.

They want to win at any cost, regardless of the merits of their party. There's a number of problems with that, but the most pernicious is that after you burn your own cities, you have to then cover it up.
