Ask HN: Where do you see Bitcoin in the next year? What about in five years?

I have an interview next week with a Bitcoin company, and although I am NOT going to ask them the above question it is in the back of my mind. I don't know much about Bitcoin, so I can't say how things will look in the future.

Bitcoin will be worth 500,000 per coin within 18 months
That would be an environmental disaster
Nope—bitcoin is generally using excess energy or energy that would usually go to waste. Putting a data center next to a damn doesn't increase greenhouse gases.

Bitcoin mining and the oil and gas industry are partnering for miners to use the energy that would normally be lost to flaring [1].

Sorry, you actually believe that? We are drowning in greenhouse has emissions and you think Bitcoin mining is a useful thing to add to it?
Probably going to zero.
Probably going to zero.

Not with institutional investors with their hundreds of billions of dollars to invest.

This is - of course - impossible to say, and quite frankly, this question should not pop up in a job interview from either parties (interviewer or interviewee).

One salient point though is a rather simple fact: supply is limited, and demand isn't - and unless a black swan event occurs, the price is likely going to continue to grow, as long as your investment horizon is >3/4 years.
