This guy and the pizza guy show up every time Bitcoin surges. At some point there will be a story of him throwing out over a billion dollars since Bitcoin is going to continue to go up.
If I were him I would try to make a business out of all the publicity he gets. That alone is worth millions. He can't get his coins back but he can make the best of what he has.
I mined 1 or 2 bitcoins when it first started, I think they were worth 1/4 of a cent at the time, and, of course, no idea where they went. I often wonder how many coins in the block chain are like this - unrecoverable
I can't find it now, but I read the other day that something like nearly 20% of bitcoin at least may be in limbo this way. At ~19m bitcoin in total, 20% of that in USD is a deeply uncomfortable number.
