Can we not post to Instagram from the command line using their API?

Looking at the API docs here https://developers.facebook.com/docs/instagram-api/reference/media under the "creating" section it explicitly says that "This operation is not supported".

Also googled around a bit and it seems that there really is no way to make a simple curl request to upload an image to instagram and share it as a post.
