This, to me, is an interesting thing to think about. With enough effort and sacrifice, we could eliminate influenza or other communicable diseases globally. How much economic, social, and educational disaster is worth ridding humanity of influenza?

SARS-CoV-2 has been horrific, and we've lost millions of lives to it already. Assuming we can eliminate it and influenza along with it, would there eventually be a "net saving" of lives?

As a result of capital being dumped into vaccines, Moderna and others already have formulas for a universal flu vaccine. I read also that mRNA can be delivered by pill. DARPA has a plan to solve future pandemics in 60 days usi g a combination of those and other technologies. We have the technology, pending regulatory success, to Amazon Prime people vaccine pills via drone that address all flus, covid or many other things. Pretty amazing.
