He is also journalist and was arrested after 2016 coup attempt. I disagree with his prison sentence, but painting him just as an erotic fiction author is simply not true.
I am sorry you thought I insinuated astroturfing. I intended only intended that I am uninterested in commentary from people who seek to protect their karma points by posting opinions they know will be unpopular using throwaway accounts. I thought that would have been the obvious interpretation.
I believe we agree that DV are use punish unpopular opinions that are perfectly honest and valid. I do not intend to filter that. Throwaways used to promote opinions they would not risk their regular account karma to say are the ones I do not wish to hear from. Stand behind your words in a forum like this or you're shadowbanned with me. Hard stop.
Because HackerNews is not some haven of rationalism, especially if the not-west is involved. A well cited well reasoned opinion will be downvoted to oblivion and accused of astroturfing if it goes against majority opinion in those cases. I've seen far too many threads about some non HN saturated country where the only commenter that's actually from that country gets downvoted to oblivion for trying to bring in a modicum of nuance. Even when they're like GP and preface their comments with "I agree with the orthodox opinion but...".
Maybe GP doesn't want to get stalked by some paranoid HNer who thinks they're a Russian spy. Maybe they don't want to lose some karma dependent feature of HN on their main account. Maybe he was a lurker and this specific topic was what was important enough to finally make an account for.
I don't know why it's so hard to understand. I was somewhat specific about not wanting to hear from karma hoarders. Risk it or zip it. Otherwise discussion is just a race to the bottom.
Much like Iran which used to be a country well on its way to greatness and slid back to the middle ages, Turkey seem to be headed squarely back to barbarism.
To think there were serious conversations back in the day to integrate Turkey into the EU ... that seems completely unthinkable these days with that kind of regression.

And the "Where" is Turkey, which is no longer a nation which tolerates freedom of expression or political dissent.
