My nephew just built a gaming PC and I couldn't be more proud. Having built my first in the late 90's I was sure by 2020 that the ability to build your own computer would have been stamped out by corporate greed. I'm also thrilled he wants to build a PC.
When I finished my EE degree and got my first job as a "Software Engineer", my first day the guy in charge of setting me up gave me a whole bunch of new components in boxes and a PC case and disc with an OS and told me to get started. Well played.
While I certainly agree building your own PC is a great thing to do, there's an elephant in the room that the author doesn't address: laptops outsell desktops by 2:1 (see [0]) and that trend is only strengthening.
