I've long wondered the value anyone gets from Linkedin. But it seems as if it's "the least dirty shirt" in a hamper of crap. It would seem that its network effect makes building a better alternative difficult. I'm not someone who uses it all that frequently but it does seem to do a decent enough job at showing job postings in a single place. As for the self promotion and "though leadership" going on there - has anyone benefited from that garbage? Seems like a sad and desperate attempt to paper over a weak resume.
Tbh I've always seen LinkedIn as heaven for egomaniacs. My profile has a fake name, doesn't have a photo and the most current employment data is from 2012...
Agreed. Use it for what its useful for, ignore the rest. Social media in general is mostly noise. The key is to optimize the best use and ignore the rest. Honestly this is much easier on LinkedIn since I have a pretty limited subset of activities that I want to engage in there.

[ 3.1 ms ] story [ 17.7 ms ] threadPersonally I use it to keep up with former colleagues and as a glorified CV. And most importantly, it have helped me get employed.
