Ask HN: Can we get a Who is Hiring but for open source projects?

Given the number of open source foundations that many of us depend on, and how thinly stretched the resources are to maintain many of them, would such a monthly thread be a good idea? The thread would be open for anyone who is involved in a project to post details about the project, what areas are in need of volunteers at the moment (feature development, testing, documentation, project management, marketing, languages used...), and would be a great resource for people getting their feet wet in any of these areas. Also it can be an avenue for struggling projects to semi-promote themselves without feeling like they are spamming.

They're all "hiring". Pick a project that you use, find something about it that could be better, and fix it. Scratch your own itch, as it were.
This is probably true, but a little exposure can't hurt.
The projects that have a critical need probably aren't having developers banging on their door -- that is why they have the critical need. And as someone who can contribute, yes I can pick something I use and see what they need, but it would be nice to filter by language type, platform, job type, etc.

And as an open source project owner, I would like to find people willing to chip in without feeling "spammy" and firing off a mention at every remotely-related opportunity. (I also need to put together a detailed code map, data flow, and overall project philosophy statement, which ends up being another example of a "job" I would advertise for).
