Some people have challenging upbringings and attempt to spend their time improving the state of the world for others since they have learned what the hardships are like; but they - like anyone else - inevitably make and repeat mistakes along the way.

For justice to improve, I think it's important that warnings are heeded, that individuals understand their responsibilities, make repairs where necessary, and change (and are seen to change) their problematic behaviours when they're informed that they've caused harm.

It's worth bearing in mind, however, that there also exist people who are more interested in the pursuit of power, status, money and sex and who would do much to avoid changing their own behaviours.

The latter category of people will, when nearing exposure of the truth, tend to do all they can to put the blame on people from the former category.

To some individuals or groups, free software may be seen as a threat, and it's possible that's why it is becoming something of a battleground.
