Ask HN: What language should be avoided in PR reviews?
We've seen comments like: - this is a terrible idea - this is a big ball of mud - looks entangled, buggy and slow
Instead, comments should be constructive: - looks like you could improve this by doing ... - there might be an improvement here by doing... - have you considered the case where...
At ProWritingAid, we're on a mission to help people improve whatever their writing. We can build powerful rules to highlight certain language patterns. We thought we could create a set of rules to flag possibly unconstructive language in PR reviews to help development teams everywhere. Even experienced devs can find themselves falling into the trap of leaving accidentally negative comments in PRs. Think "yes, but" instead of "yes, and".
What examples do you have of poor language patterns that you've seen in PR reviews? Conversely, are there any language patterns that you would like to see more frequently in PR reviews?
