Ask HN: How would you define an “amazing” Developer?
I often hear people talking about the amazing or awesome/rockstar/ninja/leet etc. Developers they have worked with, especially at FANG-type companies where money is not an issue.
However, in an industry that really struggles to objectively measure how good a Developer is and since there are frequent criticisms of the way in which companies try and measure how good a candidate is at interview, what are your practical examples of someone who was "amazing"? What did they do that made you think that they were so good compared to us mortal developers?
I understand why someone like Linus writing Linux is amazing (ditto for most of the authors of new programming languages) but I suspect that even these rare breeds might have arrived at their destination by sheer hard work and above-average intelligence and a bit of good teamwork rather than any particular magic!
