This is calculated in dollars, which is not the unit we use for measuring amounts of energy.

ok but what about the energy used to print and circulate dollars and the negative externalities associated with manipulation of those dollars

Estimated Bitcoin energy consumption is 1.8% of total US energy consumption. I don't think that printing and circulating US dollars even remotely adds up to 1% of the country's energy usage.
