Ask HN: What are some effective ways the neurodiverse can do pairing?

I enjoy the experience of pair programming most times, but I find it pretty daunting for some aspects of programming. For instance, I often need some time to kind of sit and think. I don't think verbally, so in addition to being a pretty solo task, it's otherwise pretty incompatible with pairing.

How do you deal with this? The end result is ok, but a lot of times I know I could have done better on my own for some tasks.

Sometimes you can sit back and let the other person drive.

Play a supporting role such as looking up things in documentation, writing up paperwork, making coffee, etc.

The issue is needing to be able to think in order to solve a problem, while driving, though.
You think the other person can't think?
No. However, my question was specifically about how I can effectively think in a specific situation.
