Part of me isn't suprised, did we really expect a conviction? The other part of me thinks that if you can do this then the impeachment system is broken, or at the very least the dangerous partisan split is irreversible. Put more simply politics is broken if not even this allows the two sides to work together.

Maybe I'm panicking and he will just fade away anyway. On the other hand have we truly crossed the Rubicon now? Some would argue we already did but maybe there was a glimmer of hope, of at least stopping, if not the movement, then at least the man.

I read recently that the problem is the next wannabe- fascist is not going to be so narcissistic. They will be smarter, and more interested in power than in attention.

In many ways, president Trump failed (in a more aggressive implementation of right wing polices) only because he didn’t care about the next steps. He wanted the spotlight. Arguably this is why Mitch McConnell was so effective with the judiciary. The guy filling the vacancies only cared how much attention it garnered.

I worry about the far right politician who has the popularity but also an agenda they intend to execute.
