Cooking with gas culturally adds to the art of food.
Unfortunately because of the massive anti-gas lobby groups it's hard to tell if it causes exposure to inappropriate levels of pollution.
One paper suggests it causes 2 times the amount of PM 2.5, which means nothing, you still have to deal with the PM 2.5 with or without gas, you'll need a good rangehood, and that's if this is your biggest expose to PM 2.5. Perhaps a general house air-filter is way more important.
And the only appropriate alternate to gas is induction, which makes this a rich persons discussion.
Pumping a gas into your house and then burning it intuitively seems like it would be bad, but it needs more proof before I'll give up the environment and cultural benefits.
The problem with the standard electric stove top is that the "power knobs" are unreliable. You don't know if the setting you hoped for was too high or too low before it's too late.
With gas you can get around this problem just by looking under the pot and checking the shape/color of the flame. Instant peace of mind.
Induction electric cooking is the solution because it combines the predictability of gas with the convenience and health aspects of electricity.
