Oh come on. The title alone makes this not worth reading. There is a valid point here, but it's obscured entirely by interjecting the image of fascists to center stage.

This is also a second-order story about old news at this point, so it'll be wiped from the front page in 3... 2... 1...

I think societal commentaries on long-running trends are much more relevant than the flash-fried news cycle of the day. I'd contest that is far better than the, well, "news" (i.e. the meaning that it's all of the things that are "new") cycle because it's 1 step grounded in our history, and 2 steps grounded in our primary relevancy in the issue going forward.

This is an interesting magazine that encompasses the whole topic well, I think: https://www.slow-journalism.com/

Yes it makes me wonder: is the real draw of Substack a hybrid of Medium and Buzzfeed? Salacious headlines with poorly written articles?
Who cares if they’re “right wing” the reality is that tech companies possess enough information and power over how we interact with information that they can do incredibly destructive things. They actively cooperate with authoritarian intelligence agencies, media companies, etc, which makes them authoritarians by extension. An argument about the political orientation of tech bros is a pointless distraction from the deeper issues in this industry.
