I grew up reading Calvin and Hobbes every day with a bowl of cereal. I have at some point or another had all of the strips.

I'm sitting outside a vet right now, awaiting my sick cat so I can have one last night with him. This strip was exactly what I needed right now. Thank you so very much.

Condolences for your cat. It's hard to lose a member of the family.

I resonate with Calvin and Hobbes a lot. There's a mixture of real-world cynicism and blushing optimism that drives me through every day. Despite all the ups and downs, being alive is a beautiful thing.

Hopefully the world after COVID will feel something like the feeling that Watterson captured in this last Calvin and Hobbes strip.

"Let's go exploring" will be a long-awaited fresh take on the world and gratitude for all that we have taken for granted for so many years.

Although Bill Watterson famously was opposed to merchandizing of Calvin and Hobbes, I just learned from Wikipedia that there was a USPS postage stamp featuring C&H, honoring it among some other noteworthy newspaper comics.

So, if you're ever looking for a nice little gift for a C&H fan who has all the books, and who isn't too opposed to moichandizing... there's a stamp-collecting thing called a "first day cover", in which a stamp had been put on a postcard, and canceled with the date that the stamp was issued, specifically for collectors. (Sometimes the cards have additional art, and sometimes the cancellation mark does.) These first day covers are affordable enough that you can just put one on the fan's fridge, for them to find.

There was also 2 official 16-month calendars that were released. I believe for 1988-1989 and for 1989-1990. Each month contains a Calvin and Hobbes strip.
That first calendar was reusable for 2016-17, and will be reusable again in 2044-45 and 2072-73.

The second one was reusable for 2006-07 and 2017-18, and will be reusable again in 2034-35, 2045-46, 2062-63, 2073-74, and 2090-91.

The second one is reusable twice as often as the first--not something I would have guessed. (I'm still not sure I believe it...).
