Ask HN: Identifying side project ideas that companies need or might buy out

Is there way to validate a side project idea corresponding to the need of existing companies that may show interest in buying them out once built? Is there way to analyze or find what companies are interested to buy what kind of side projects?

For example: Regarding the cryptocurrency market, if there is a much more better version of coinmarketcap with great ux, etc..etc.. that makes it a better product, does any company would like to buy that out, make their own and grow it?

Or do they prefer to have an in-house team and build something from scratch.

I believe building side projects are cheaper than assembling a team

Does anyone else have a side project that you are looking for to buy? What those ideas might be?
