After a year of feedback, surely some folks must have suggesting making this either part of or an extension of ADS-B and yet, they intentionally and very explicitly avoided this. Had they integrated this into, or made it an extension of ADS-B, then aircraft could see and avoid drones, even if that meant only newer ADS transceivers would benefit. Collision with aircraft is one of the biggest threats of drone activity.
