I have no problem with a 'link tax' on market controlling type entities.

To me news is important, and providing a revenue connection from those market dominating sites that profit from providing a bunch of links to news stories is a system I can live with.

Much of the reaction is because Facebook is that dominant ...

Agreed it's nonsensical. Until you remember the above, then it starts to add up. There is no other principle in operation here.
